Why activities break at scale

Do the arithmetic. Eight teams pitching for one minute each is eight minutes of pitching and about twenty-five minutes of watching per student. Twenty teams is twenty minutes of pitching and, for any given student, nineteen minutes of sitting still.

Run the rounds concurrently and make the front of the room a showcase, not the venue.

What you need, and what you do not

You need: one screen everyone can see, one visible timer, and a student judge per table.

You do not need: more adults, devices for students, accounts, printed materials for every student, or amplification for anything except the final.

The staffing question is usually what stops schools attempting this. Appointing student judges answers it, and the judging is itself worth doing - a student who has had to justify a score pitches differently afterwards.
